Wall Street Journal: Jolla Sets Sights On Big Two
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) interviewed Jolla a few days ago with a video entitled “Finland’s Jolla Phone Aims to Compete With Apple, Samsung”.
Jolla Chairman, Antii Saarnio is the interviewee and responds to questions from WSJ’s Yun-Hee Kim in this Digits exclusive interview.
The link to the video interview can be found here: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2013/06/05/finlands-jolla-phone-aims-to-compete-with-apple-samsung/
The interview touches on the fact that ‘the other half’ cases can easily change the security levels of the phone eg. adding one case could make the phone a highly secure work phone and then when you get home you could replace that one with your ‘home’ case and the software would respond accordingly.
The video unravels a few more mysteries of Jolla’s proposed plan and is definitely worth a watch.
On a side note, I couldn’t help but notice that Apples new Iphone iteration due for an Autumn release (IOS 7 announced yesterday) features something very similar to Jolla’s ‘ambience’ function – coincidence, I think not. In IOS7, it appears that by changing the wallpaper on the homescreen, you also change the look and feel of the phone which seems (like the ambience feature in Sailfish) to reflect the colours in your wallpaper image. A lot of the other features in IOS7 seem to have been heavily influenced by MeeGO, Web OS and many other operating systems. There go Apple again taking from others and calling it their own!
So let’s support the real innovators and help get Jolla up there with the big boys!
