BBM: Running On Jolla

For those of you still reliant on Blackberry’s BBM messaging service we have some good news discovered via YouTube user oniongarlic.

The video below shows BBM working perfectly on the Jolla using the android version which can be downloaded from your android app store of choice directly to your Jolla.

BBM even integrates into the notification area of the Jolla without modification which I found surprising, but there seems to be some issue with messages actually reaching the notification area.  However, you can obviously keep BBM running as a live tile to see any recent notifications.

On the whole, it seems to work pretty well and here is the video for evidence:

  1. This doesn’t seem very well integrated regarding the notification.
The only notification you can see in the video is that the BBM application is launched. No notification when a message is received. That would be very great if Blackberry was to develop a native app for the Jolla but I’m not sure it’s interesting them to do so…

    • @bafftech – You’re right, messages do seem to have an issue getting to the notification area even though BBM displays there which is strange. Thanks, I’ve edited that. ;-)

  3. How about contacts? And last question, if I open an other android app it will kill BBM services? For e.g. with whatsapp it will work in the background at least until I open an other app (Viber), until then it won’t receive messages and notifications. The same problem is if I close the app with the slide-down gesture but this I think is something inside the android compatibility on Sailfish.
