This is a fantastic move on Jolla’s part – the Far East has a massive growing handset market and to get into that early is good news.
‘The agreement is such that D.Phone will start sales and distribution of Jolla smartphones in China, utilising D.Phone’s vast network of over 2000 retail stores to reach the Chinese consumers.
Mr. Donghai Liu, Founder and CEO of D.Phone Group: “We see great potential for Jolla as a new player in the Chinese smartphone market with Jolla’s fresh and unique user experience. Together with Jolla our aim is to reach significant sales volumes.”
Together the companies have a shared target to reach significant sales volumes in China’s 150 million smartphone market.’
To have committed to such a deal, it would be assumed that D.Phone Group have already seen some kind of prototype and are suitably impressed by what they see no? Otherwise, without something solid, it would be unlikely that the large Chinese retailer would commit I would have thought. If this is the case, it could be that a lot of the device software/design may already be in the bag and all that is left is to get retailers/operators on board…. with this fast paced industry changes are always afoot however so a finished device now, might not be the one you get in a few months time with ever evolving hardware. Watch this space!

“D.Phone is a strategic partner with China Mobile, China Telecom and ChinaUnicom.”
